ASPECT continues to engage in critical discussions shaping the future of employment services. This week, we are interested in the formation of the newly established ministers' committee aimed at "co-ordinating the whole-of-government approach to protect BC's workers, businesses and economy." If you missed last week's CEO report, we noted what was included in the ministerial mandate letters and more about the economic threats.
At the same time, we are excited to announce an expansion of our Refocusing the Urban Lens for Rural and Remote Employment Services to include supported employment in rural and remote communities across Canada, thanks to funding from the Canadian Association for Supported Employment (CASE). This initiative will deepen our understanding of the unique barriers and opportunities faced by individuals with disabilities in these regions, providing actionable insights for policy and practice.
We are also developing a new webinar series in partnership with and based on Life Strategies Ltd. and Free Rein Associates' Diversity Disconnect research. This series will highlight their findings and the employment realities in rural and remote communities. These sessions will engage practitioners and policymakers in meaningful discussions about fostering inclusive workplaces and bridging gaps in employment services.
Another exciting initiative is ASPECT's role as project manager for a new supervisor training program for the social services sector on behalf of the Social Services Roundtable Reference Group. Funded by the BC's Ministry of Social Development & Poverty Reduction, this project brings together experienced trainers to deliver essential leadership and management skills to social service supervisors. By developing a searchable training platform and implementing a token-based system for funding access, we aim to support learning for 350 supervisors and create long-lasting learning opportunities.
These initiatives strengthen ASPECT's role as a leader in employment services advocacy, research, and knowledge-sharing. Through collaboration and evidence-based approaches, we are building a more inclusive and resilient workforce across Canada, preparing the sector for what may be any looming US tariffs.
Stay tuned for updates as we continue this vital work!
