David Hutson Leadership Award

David Hutson 1949 – 2009

The David Hutson Leadership Award is awarded to an individual who demonstrates exemplary leadership in the community-based training sector.

David’s Legacy

In 1990, working as the Executive Director of Employment Options for the Vancouver School Board, David Hutson gathered together a group of service providers and formed the BC SED Association that became what we know today as ASPECT.

In 2009, David passed away after a tragic accident. James Hutson talked about his father’s sense of duty to the community. “My father was a builder; he loved construction and he loved to build communities. His thesis for his master’s degree at Royal Roads was on building community. For 18 years my father managed the Employment Options Group, a series of employment programs through VCC and the Vancouver School Board helping struggling people get jobs.”

To honour his commitment to community and to recognize exemplary dedication to the sector, ASPECT recognizes leadership in the community-based training sector with an annual award in his name.
