Conference Theme: In the world of social services, on the one side, we have the increasing need of clients, society, communities and on the other side we have shifting priorities of government and funders. How do we bridge that gap of the space between?…that’s the kind of speakers ASPECT is seeking for this year’s conference, to present on innovation, making the case to funders, advocacy, public awareness, etc. Social service agencies overall are between a rock and a hard place. Therefore, they are the space between….
The Space Between
ASPECT Profile: ASPECT is a non-profit association of more than 100 community-based training agencies in British Columbia that collectively strives to prepare people for the world of work. The ASPECT conference is about sharing and learning: from keynotes, workshop presenters, sponsors, exhibitors and peers.
Community Based Training Sector Profile:
Anticipated Attendance: The community-based employment training sector continues the historic mission of providing holistic, collaborative and non-institutional career development opportunities and employment preparation to the unemployed including people with disabilities, new immigrants, youth, women and more.
Representatives from Community-Based Training agencies from BC and across Canada including: Career development professionals, counsellors, program managers, executive directors and board members and representatives from Government.
200 – 250 delegates
The conference will offer workshop streams and topics for managers, executive directors and front line workers.
Workshops are intended to provide valuable new ideas and new information delegates can take back to their agency and use right away.
The following list of topics is not intended to be exhaustive:
Management tools and techniques, proposal writing, contract negotiation
Public policy, advocacy and public relations
Board of Directors training
Models of service delivery
Succession planning, recruitment and retention
Tools to assist agencies in working with client groups such as – immigrants, people with disabilities, youth, older workers and multi-barriered clients
