Our Purpose

In 1990, The Association of Service Providers for Employability and Career Training (ASPECT) formed to represent the community-based training agencies in British Columbia and ensure people who needed employability skills and career support would have local access to training.

The purpose of ASPECT is to:

Advance the opportunities of people to achieve and maintain employment and self-employment that is both meaningful and rewarding to them and facilitate attainment of such employment. In furtherance of the above purposes, and not by way of limitation,

  • To assist in education and training of persons and organizations engaged in employment related training and employability services and programs that is responsive to community needs;
  • To make representations to government to advocate for changes to laws and policies relating to employability services;
  • To organize and implement educational and professional development opportunities regarding employability services;
  • To promote ethical and professional standards relating to employability services;
  • To promote public awareness of issues relating to training and employability;
  • To conduct research, surveys and consultation processes to advance and communicate knowledge with respect to training and employability issues; and
  • To ensure financial sustainability of the Society by securing funding from public and private sources in ways consistent with the purposes.

Our Work Now

ASPECT provides leadership, professional development, advocacy and representation support of community-based workforce development service providers. Our members are leading experts in the delivery of career training programs to improve chances of employability and job retention for their clients. The focus is always on making our communities sustainable by promoting and increasing the value of using local people who understand the market and can deliver the needed training and services.

Our work also focuses on capacity building for our sector and we are also proud to work with our associate members, government and other stakeholders who also work to create meaningful employment in BC and Canada.

We are always working on innovative initiatives, like our ASPECT Summit, to continue to work towards our vision and mission.
